Let the Church Say Amen Pt. 2: Healing from Church Hurt Through Christ
Church hurt is one of the most painful experiences a believer can face. In Part 2 of Through the Refiner’s Fire Podcast, we continued a deeply honest and biblical conversation about how to respond when the place meant for healing becomes a place of hurt.
Acknowledging the Pain Without Staying in It
We began by making something clear: church hurt is real, and it should never be minimized. However, there must come a moment where every believer makes a decision—will we turn toward Christ, or away from Him?
Pain presents a test. And how we respond determines our spiritual direction.
Can We Still Trust God?
Even in the midst of betrayal or rejection, God’s love remains constant. We discussed how God Himself has been rejected by His people, yet He continues to love, pursue, and restore.
This truth reshapes our perspective:
If God continues to love through rejection, how should we respond?
Love is Proven in Conflict
It’s easy to claim love when everything is going well. But true love is revealed in moments of disagreement, offense, and hurt.
Love is not:
- Emotional reactions
- Social media statements
- Passive tolerance
Love is:
- Laying down pride
- Seeking restoration
- Choosing forgiveness
- Protecting unity
The Power of Forgiveness
Forgiveness is not about excusing others—it’s about freeing yourself.
When we hold onto unforgiveness:
- Bitterness grows
- Anger festers
- Healing is delayed
But when we forgive:
- We cut off the root of bitterness
- We begin the healing process
- We align with God’s will
Leadership Accountability Matters
We also addressed a critical truth: church hurt often involves leadership.
Biblical leadership should:
- Confront sin
- Protect the vulnerable
- Restore the wounded
- Lead by example
And just as leaders hold others accountable, they must also be held accountable.
When Should You Leave a Church?
Leaving a church should not be rooted in offense—but in truth.
If a church:
- Rejects biblical teaching
- Enables harm
- Lacks accountability
Then it may be time to go. But even then, we are not called to abandon the body of Christ—only to seek a healthy place to grow.
Practical Steps for Healing
We closed with practical, biblical steps for overcoming church hurt:
- Acknowledge the hurt
- Separate God from man’s failure
- Take it to God in prayer
- Know God’s Word
- Stay connected to the Church
- Pursue forgiveness and reconciliation
Final Thoughts
Healing doesn’t happen overnight.
Forgiveness isn’t always easy.
Reconciliation takes humility.
But through Christ, it is all possible.
Don’t let offense stop your growth.
Don’t let hurt steal your calling.
And don’t walk away from the One who can heal you.
