Two or Three Witnesses (Part 1): Is Your Life Confirming Your Confession?

Two or Three Witnesses (Part 1): Is Your Life Confirming Your Confession?

In this episode of Through the Refiner’s Fire Podcast, we continued our Testament of Our Testimony series with a foundational truth:

God does not leave truth standing on isolated voices.

From the Old Testament Law to the New Testament Gospel, God establishes matters through witnesses. This principle is clearly stated in Deuteronomy 19:15 and reaffirmed by Jesus in Gospel of John 8:17–20.

But the deeper question isn’t just about legal testimony. It’s personal.

Do We Bear Witness of Who He Is?

Craig opened the episode with piercing questions:

  • Can Christ be found in us?

  • Can His Spirit be found in us?

  • Does our life bear witness to Him?

Jesus declared that His testimony was not alone—the Father bore witness with Him. The unity within the Godhead confirms divine truth. Throughout Scripture, we see agreement:

  • The Law points forward.

  • The Prophets proclaim.

  • Christ fulfills.

  • The Apostles confirm.

There is no contradiction—only harmony.

The Spirit as Witness

Antonio emphasized that the Holy Spirit does not speak independently of Christ but testifies to what Christ has already spoken. The Spirit aligns with the Word. The New Testament aligns with the Old Testament. Truth confirms truth.

This destroys the idea of “blind faith.” Biblical faith is not irrational belief—it is trust in the One who has consistently confirmed His promises throughout history.

Examine Yourselves

The turning point of the episode came in Second Corinthians 13:5:

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; test yourselves.”

This testing is not about doubting God. It is about evaluating our own alignment with Him.

Key questions discussed:

  • Is Christ truly in me?

  • Is there fruit that confirms transformation?

  • Am I growing in sanctification?

  • Is my devotion deepening?

Paul’s warning wasn’t condemnation—it was protection.

The Danger of Easy Believism

A powerful portion of the episode addressed what many call “easy believism.”

Believing with the mouth but remaining unchanged in heart.
Professing Christ while continuing in habitual sin.
Claiming salvation with no visible fruit.

The brothers made it clear: the fruit of the Spirit is evidence of the Spirit. Obedience, repentance, devotion, and transformation are not optional—they are witnesses.

Testing Doctrine: Another Jesus?

In referencing 2 Corinthians 11, the conversation turned to discernment. Paul warned about “another Jesus” and “another gospel.”

In today’s age of spiritual confusion, testing isn’t just about behavior—it’s about belief.

  • Are we following the Jesus of Scripture?

  • Does our faith align with the Word?

  • Are we captivated by charisma instead of truth?

The closer you get to Christ, the more counterfeit fruit becomes obvious.

Real Fruit vs Artificial Fruit

Antonio illustrated this with a simple but powerful metaphor:

A bowl of real fruit and a bowl of artificial fruit look similar from far away. But when you come close—and especially when you take a bite—the truth is revealed.

So it is with believers.

Distance hides deception.
Closeness exposes it.

The closer we draw to God, the clearer the distinction becomes.

Personal Devotion & Removing Idols

The episode closed with a vulnerable reflection on removing neutral things that had become idols—not sinful in themselves, but distractions that hindered intimacy with God.

When devotion increases, growth follows.
When idols are removed, clarity comes.
When obedience is chosen, fruit appears.

That growth is a witness.

Key Takeaways

  • God confirms truth through multiple witnesses.

  • The Spirit never contradicts the Word.

  • Faith is trust in the confirmed promises of God.

  • Believers must continually examine themselves.

  • Fruit is evidence of transformation.

  • Discernment is essential in an age of false teaching.

  • Devotion produces real spiritual growth.

Part 2 will continue this sobering and empowering conversation.
